What is Catnip Wars?

A chaotic, co-op action-TD where you play as Catbots defending catnip with BFGs and lasers.

Imagine if Orcs Must Die! had a baby with a sci-fi cat farm. You play as scrappy Catbots defending your precious catnip stash from waves of Necronazis in a wild, action-packed tower defense.

Gameplay

You aren't just clicking a map and watching towers fire like you do in Bloons. In Catnip Wars, you're actually on the ground as a Catbot, manually harvesting resources and building walls to keep Necronazis away from your stash. It's a chaotic loop where you're juggling the tech tree and turret placement while physically fighting for your life. When the waves get absolutely mental, you can jump onto the BFG to clear the field, or scramble to revive your friends if you're playing the 1-4 player co-op.

The progression feels rewarding as you climb the tech tree, but don't expect it to be a smooth ride. It's an action-TD hybrid that feels a bit derivative of games like Orcs Must Die!, but the sci-fi cat farm theme keeps it from feeling stale. You'll spend your time balancing the tactical side of base building with the frantic energy of direct combat.

At $9.99, it's a paid title in a genre that's often free-to-play, which might give some people pause. However, the amount of chaos you get with a squad justifies the price. Just be ready for some indie jank; it's not as polished as Kingdom Rush, and you'll definitely run into some rough edges while you play. It's a blast if you can look past the lack of sheen for the sake of robotic kittens and lasers.

Verdict

I'm giving this a 7.5/10. It's a must-play if you love co-op chaos and weird themes, but if you can't stand unpolished UI or indie jank, you might want to wait for a patch.
