What is Unrivaled?

Unrivaled offers a unique tactical-deckbuilding hybrid that’s worth your time for its strategic depth, despite being a rough early access build.

Unrivaled is a messy but ambitious attempt to blend tactical grid strategy with deck-building mechanics, offering a cerebral alternative to standard roguelikes. If you’re tired of mindless number-crunching, this early access title might scratch that itch, but you need to be ready for some rough edges.

Gameplay

You step into Unrivaled expecting a standard roguelike, but Rainbow Dragon Games is trying something weirder. It’s a hybrid that slams a classic CCG deck-building loop onto a 2D tactical battlefield. You aren’t just playing cards in a void; you’re positioning units on a grid while managing your hand. The synergy hits different here because cards interact with actual map positioning, not just raw stats. It feels more cerebral than the 'hit it until it dies' vibe of typical deckbuilders. You’re building a deck to survive a strategic map, which makes every placement matter. The run variety is decent, but since it’s campaign-focused, you feel the progression more than the chaotic 'start from zero' adrenaline of Balatro. It’s not Slay the Spire, and it doesn’t try to be. It’s carving its own path by forcing you to think about tactics before you even play a card.

Verdict

If you’re a deckbuilder junkie who craves more 'meat on the bones' than a standard roguelike, grab Unrivaled for $4.99 to see where it’s heading. Skip it if you need a polished AAA experience or hate dealing with early access bugs. It’s a solid 7/10 right now, but it could be a sleeper hit if the devs keep fixing the UX.
