What is Stackade?

Stackade is a uniquely addictive spatial puzzle disguised as a tower defense game, perfect for players who enjoy geometry challenges over traditional strategy.

Imagine if Tetris crashed into Kingdom Rush and decided to build a fortress out of its own blocks. Stackade is a weird little indie project that forces you to think about geometry and spatial management in ways standard tower defenses don't. It’s a fever dream crossover that feels fresh, even if it’s a bit rough around the edges. You’ll spend your time dragging falling columns to wall in your HQ, turning gaps into deadly kill zones with attached weaponry.

Gameplay

Stackade turns tower defense into a spatial puzzle where your towers literally fall as blocks. Instead of clicking a map to place units, you drag columns of Tetris-like pieces into a grid around your HQ. You aren't just building a wall; you're fitting miniguns, rifles, or flamethrowers into specific gaps to create kill zones. It’s a clever twist on the genre because you have to manage the geometry of your defense as much as your budget. The Armory never has enough money for everything you want, so you have to prioritize which gaps to close. There's also an 'Infinity' mode that runs until you get overrun, which is where the real addiction kicks in. You’ll find yourself trying to squeeze one more block in before the next wave hits.

Key Features

  • Falling block tower mechanics
  • Spatial management around HQ
  • Rewind mechanic for bad drops
  • Infinity mode for endless play
  • Pixel-art indie aesthetic

Verdict

If you're bored of standard TD games and want something that makes you actually think about geometry, grab the demo on itch.io or wishlist it on Steam. It's a quirky, tight loop that doesn't overstay its welcome. Skip it if you need a deep story or polished UI, as this is a lean, unfinished experience.
