What is Defense of Wancotte?
Stop placing the same three towers in every level and try Defense of Wancotte. It tosses out predefined towers for a modular system where you actually build your defenses from scratch. It's a fresh, tinkerer-friendly take on the genre that lets you break the game if you're smart enough.

Gameplay
You're not just plopping down a fire tower and hoping for the best here. In Defense of Wancotte, you're an architect using a modular system to assemble your own defenses. You slot up to four different units into a single tower to mix and match abilities, which makes it a total tinkerer's dream. It's way more hands-on than Bloons TD because you aren't just following a set upgrade path; you're experimenting with synergies to see what actually breaks the game. You'll spend a huge chunk of your time just messing with these combinations to find the perfect build.
Once you've got your towers sorted, you'll tackle the Shadow and Bone campaign across 10 levels. If you're a masochist, there's a Challenge mode that'll actually make you sweat. The depth is wild, but the experience isn't seamless. Since Kitchin is a smaller dev, the game has some rough edges. The UI feels clunky when you're trying to swap units mid-battle, and the overall polish is definitely in that 'indie' territory. It's not as slick as Kingdom Rush, but the core loop is addictive enough that you'll probably overlook the jank.
At $9.99, it's a paid title in a market flooded with free-to-play options. You're paying for the creative freedom of the build-a-tower system, but if you hate clunky menus or unpolished interfaces, that price tag might sting a bit. It's a fair trade for the depth, but you've gotta be okay with some friction while you play.

Verdict
I'm giving it a 7.5/10. Grab it if you're bored of standard TD gameplay and want to customize every single tower, but skip it if you can't stand unpolished indie UIs. If you're on the fence, just hit the Steam demo first.
