What is Battlements?
If you're looking for something different to scratch that TD itch, you've gotta check out Battlements. It's a wild, arcadey love letter to the classic game Rampart where you build forts to blast pirates.
Gameplay
You're not just placing towers and watching them work here. In Battlements, you're building a fortress using tetrominoes—basically Tetris blocks—to create walls that protect your nation from the Crimson Waves Empire. You stuff cannons inside those walls to blast pirate ships, but the real hook is the cycle. You build, you defend, your walls get smashed to bits, and then you rebuild. It's a constant loop of destruction and construction that keeps you on your toes.
It's way more arcadey and chaotic than something like Bloons or Kingdom Rush. You're dealing with physics and resource management rather than just precise synergy. To keep things fresh, you've got special cards and upgrades to mess with, so your layout isn't the only thing that matters. It's fast-paced, explosive, and definitely weird.
At $4.99, it's a cheap entry point, but you should know it's a niche experience. It's an indie project with some rough edges and a smaller scope than the big AAA titles. Because it's a reimagining of a very specific old-school game, the 'build-break-repeat' vibe can feel repetitive if you aren't into that specific loop. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it makes the wheel feel fresh. I'd give it a 7.5/10 for the sheer chaos of it all.
