Gameplay
You'll spend most of your time in the Roguelike mode, though there's a Versus mode if you want to test your builds. The core loop is all about the math of the Chinese Five Elements—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. You aren't just playing the strongest card in your hand; you're obsessing over how to trigger elemental cycles to maximize your output. It feels like a puzzle game disguised as a CCG. When you finally nail a chain of hero abilities and items, you get that same rush as finding a broken combo in Balatro.
Run variety stays decent because you're constantly adapting to different AI levels and gear drops. The meta-progression keeps you hooked, pushing you to refine your builds and chase higher scores. However, it's an indie title and it shows. The UI isn't AAA and it's definitely a bit rough around the edges. If you don't know the Five Elements philosophy, expect a steep learning curve before the strategy feels intuitive. It's not as polished as Slay the Spire, but the mechanics are way more interesting than the usual clones. At $3.99, it's a cheap entry point, but you're paying for the systems, not the polish.
