What is Soulreign?
Imagine if Backpack Battles had a baby with a creature-collector RPG. You bind legendary souls, arrange their gear in tight grids to create ability chains, and then watch your optimized engine shred enemies in auto-combat.

Gameplay
You're basically playing inventory Tetris with souls. Instead of just chasing synergies like you do in TFT or Hearthstone Battlegrounds, you're binding legendary souls and managing a 6x3 item grid for each. The items are the abilities, so you're designing a combat engine by shifting gear around to trigger effects in the right order. Once you've optimized the grid, you just watch the cinematic battles roll out. It's incredibly satisfying when a build finally clicks and you've built an unstoppable machine.
Progression feels more like a journey than isolated matches. You'll explore over 25 regions, tackle a roguelite Descent, and eventually hit ranked PvP. The loot you find in combat feeds right back into crafting, which keeps you hooked. However, it's Early Access, so expect some friction. The UI feels clunky when you're deep in the grids, and you'll inevitably hit grind walls where you're stuck until you find a specific soul.
At $7.99, it's a paid entry in a genre that's usually free-to-play. You're paying for a 'buy once, no pay-to-win' experience, which is a breath of fresh air, even if the game is still rough. You'll spend a lot of time in the menus, and while the timed expeditions are a great motivator to build multiple parties, the overall polish isn't quite there yet. It's a solid 7.5/10 that leans heavily on the Backpack Battles formula but adds a compelling RPG layer.

What Players Say
Most players are loving the strategic depth of the inventory system, with some calling it a 'really fun little RPG' and praising the responsive dev. However, it's not all praise; some find the grind too repetitive and complain that the menu navigation 'needs a polish pass'. There's also frustration from players who feel the game isn't a true new release because some veterans already have packs of legendary heroes.
