What is Soulreign?
Imagine if Backpack Battles had a baby with a dark fantasy soul-collector RPG. You don't play cards; you arrange item grids to create lethal synergies and then watch your team fight automatically.

Gameplay
You're not playing cards here; you're playing Tetris with your combat stats. Soulreign is an auto-battler where you collect souls, each with a 6x3 item grid. Your 'deck-building' is actually grid-building. You slot in items that act as abilities, and the way you arrange them creates the synergies. It's a puzzle of trying to fit massive power-items into a tiny space to maximize your DPS. Once the grid is set, you just watch the fight happen. It's less about the turn-by-turn tactics of Slay the Spire and more about that 'build it and pray' energy.
The loop is honestly addictive. You'll spend your time hunting legendary souls and grinding through over 25 regions. For high-stakes action, you've got the roguelite Descent mode, and there's a ranked PvP ladder to test your meta. Meta-progression feels rewarding, especially with timed expeditions that push you to build multiple parties. It's a bit of a grind, but optimizing your gear to wreck an opponent is a huge rush.
Now, it's not all smooth. It's in Early Access and feels a bit unpolished. The biggest annoyance? You need a constant internet connection even for solo play. At $7.99, it's a paid entry for a genre that's often free-to-play, but the 'no pay-to-win' promise makes it feel fair. Just be warned: if you hate the idea of having zero direct control during a fight, you'll probably bounce off this quickly. I'd give it a 7.5/10.

What Players Say
People are generally digging the mix of creature collecting and inventory management, with some calling it a 'really fun little RPG'. A few players love how loot from combat feeds into crafting and appreciate the responsive dev. However, it's not all praise. Some find it to be a 'repetative grind' and complain that veteran players already have packs of legendary heroes, making the start feel uneven.
