First Impressions: Shatterswarm Demo
Imagine a tower defense game where you actually get to fly the ships instead of just watching from above. Shatterswarm puts you in the cockpit to defend humanity's last colony from a terrifying alien swarm. It's a punchy, action-heavy twist on the genre that's free to try right now.

Gameplay
You aren't just plopping towers and watching them work here. In the Shatterswarm Demo, you're defending the Citadel from the Voxan Empire, but you're doing it while actively piloting Captain Hope's ship. It's a mix of direct ship combat and traditional TD where you build defensive networks across nodes and deploy bombers, fighters, and carriers to stop the swarm. It's way more active than Bloons TD because you're actually in the thick of the fight.
The loop of expanding the Citadel's reach and upgrading your weapons feels rewarding, and the boss battles will actually make you sweat. However, it's a short ride. The full game only has three levels, so don't expect a massive epic. It's an indie project from Iron Fin Games, and it definitely feels 'hand-crafted,' meaning it's a bit rough around the edges.
Because it's a demo, you'll notice some depth limitations. The systems are relatively simple, and you might find yourself wanting more to tinker with. It doesn't try to be a complex beast like Kingdom Rush; it just wants you to feel like a fleet commander fighting for survival. Since it's free to play, the lack of complexity isn't a dealbreaker, but it's something to keep in mind if you're looking for a hardcore strategy simulation.

First Impressions
“SHUT UP ABOUT THE BLOODY SHIFT KEY! Other than that, It's a solid game. I look forward to it coming out.”
It's a solid 7.5/10 that blends RTS elements with TD in a way that feels fresh. If you've got a free hour, you should definitely grab this demo since it's free, but skip it if you need deep, complex customization. I'm hoping the full release adds more levels and fleet depth to flesh out the core loop.
