Gameplay
You aren't fighting monsters in a dungeon here; you're rebuilding a city inside a journal. Your core loop involves playing cards to place buildings and drawing hand-drawn roads to connect them. It's a race against a spreading darkness that tries to eat your pages, so you've got to expand fast or get consumed. Unlike Slay the Spire, you aren't just stacking damage numbers. You're managing a physical layout where placing the right structures next to each other spikes your resource production. Once those synergies click, you'll feel the shift from a desperate scramble to a planned takeover.
Run variety is solid because you can pivot your strategy. Some games you'll lean into heavy infrastructure and roads, while others focus on defensive play to push back the shadow. The meta-progression keeps you hooked by unlocking better cards and abilities for future runs. At $4.99, it's a steal for the amount of experimentation you get. However, it's not all smooth sailing. The UI is clunky, especially when you're trying to fit roads into tight spots, and some card descriptions are too vague. It's a bit fiddly, but the unique blend of city-building and deck-building makes it a breath of fresh air. I'd give it a 7.5/10.
