Ever wondered what it's like to be the bad guy? In I Am the Demon King: Stop Sun Wukong, you ditch the hero role to defend your throne against the legendary Monkey King in a reverse-themed roguelite TD.
Gameplay
You're playing a reverse Journey to the West, which means you aren't the hero—you're the Demon King. Your only goal is to stop Sun Wukong and his crew from reaching your throne. It's a roguelite TD mix where you don't just plop down static towers. Instead, you draft monsters and place up to 24 magic traps to turn your defense into a total meat-grinder for the pilgrims.
The loop is surprisingly addictive. You'll fight through 10 escalating stages, but since it's a roguelite, you can't just rely on one build. You've got to pivot your strategy on the fly based on which monsters you actually pull during the draft. It doesn't feel like Kingdom Rush where you're managing a tight army; it's more of a strategic puzzle. You're trying to break the enemy's momentum before they breach your base.
Since it's a free demo, it's a bit raw. You'll definitely run into some indie rough edges, especially with the UI and the general pacing. It doesn't have the polished depth of something like Defense Grid, but it's trying something fresh. If you're tired of another Bloons clone, this is a great way to spend a few minutes seeing if the 'boss' fantasy clicks for you.
