Gameplay
You've gotta stop thinking about this as a standard tower defense game. If you're looking for the pixel-perfect placement of Defense Grid or the lanes of Bloons, you're in the wrong place. Fantasy World is more of a civilization builder mashed up with roguelike elements. You start by building a kingdom and exploring the wilderness to find underground secrets and gear, then you command massive armies to hold off hordes of monsters and alien races. It's less about a single tower and more about the macro-strategy of managing your resources to survive.
The loop is surprisingly addictive because you're constantly adapting to the map. You aren't just defending a static path; you're gathering materials and equipment to keep your civilization alive. However, it's definitely an ambitious project with some rough edges. The UI feels clunky at times, and because it tries to be an RPG, sim, and TD all at once, some systems don't feel as polished as a dedicated strategy title.
At $19.99, it's a bit of an investment for a game that feels this unrefined in spots. You'll find it derivative of big open-world sims, but the roguelike twist keeps the replay value high. It's a lot to take in at once, and you might find yourself fighting the interface as much as the enemies. Still, the scale of the battles is awesome, and seeing your kingdom grow from nothing makes the struggle feel worth it. I'd give it a 7.5/10 for the sheer ambition, even if it's a bit messy.
