If you're bored of the same old deckbuilders, Doom ChessMaster Demo is a weird, gritty apocalypse survival game that actually works. You'll scrap through ruins managing a squad of survivors where gear matters just as much as the cards in your hand.

Gameplay

You're not some legendary hero here; you're just a survivor scraping through ruins in a bleak, gritty apocalypse. The core loop isn't your typical 'play a card, hit a monster' setup. Instead, you're managing a squad, balancing equipment, talents, and multi-character progression. You'll spend your time building a toolkit where the real synergies happen between your gear and your talents. You can't just find one broken card and coast; you've got to make the whole team work together or you're toast.

Run variety is decent for a demo, giving you the first area's map and a few bosses to chew on. The real hook is the NG+ cycles. It hits that classic roguelike itch where you're constantly planning how that one specific piece of gear in the next run will let you steamroll a boss. It's less like Slay the Spire and more like a stressful strategic puzzle where tactical movement adds a layer of pressure that keeps you on your toes.

Since this is a demo for a 2026 release, it's got some serious rough edges. The UI feels clunky and the learning curve is a vertical cliff. You'll die. A lot. It's a punishing experience that doesn't hold your hand, which might be a dealbreaker if you prefer a smoother onboarding process. Still, as a free-to-play preview, the core loop is addictive enough to ignore the jank for a few hours.
