What is Abyss Forge?
Abyss Forge throws you into deep space with a grid of tiles instead of a hand of cards, forcing you to merge modules for fuel and research. It’s a weird, addictive twist on the deckbuilder genre that rewards patience over reflexes. If you can handle the lack of polish, the core loop hits that perfect addictive note.

Gameplay
You need to clear your head first because Abyss Forge is a weird, addictive little project from Forge Works that definitely isn't a typical card-slinging deckbuilder. It’s a sci-fi match-and-merge roguelike where you’re managing tiles in deep space instead of playing cards from a hand. You move tiles to create matches and merge modules to gather fuel, efficiency, and research. It’s basically a deckbuilder where your 'deck' is the grid of modules you’re forging together, and the loop is surprisingly tight. You push your ship deeper into unknown sectors, shaping your build through random upgrades that feel great. The synergy comes from how you merge specific modules to maximize efficiency, giving you that 'just one more turn' feeling from Balatro as you hunt for the perfect piece to make your engine explode. However, it’s a small game with a casual management vibe rather than a hardcore tactical battle like Slay the Spire. Variety is decent at first, but you’ll start seeing the same patterns after a while. It’s not exactly deep, but it’s satisfying if you’re looking for low-stress gameplay.

Verdict
It’s worth your time if you want something low-stress to play while listening to a podcast, especially at the $3.99 price tag which feels fair for the scope. However, you should skip it if you’re looking for deep tactical combat or polished UI, as the shallow systems and basic visuals might drag on you after a few hours.
