What is Renz Tower Defense?

A minimalist, merging-focused tower defense that scratches the autobattler itch for $7.99.

You've got to check out Renz Tower Defense. It's a minimalist TD roguelike with a heavy Super Auto Pets vibe that turns tower placement into a strategic merging game.

Gameplay

You aren't just plopping towers down and praying for the best. The core loop is a weird, addictive mix of tower defense and autobattler mechanics where you're constantly buying, selling, and merging units in a shop. You'll spend your time managing a tight economy, deciding if you should save your cash or go all-in on specific tower types to survive the next wave. With over 40 towers and 15 enemy types, you've got to pivot your build fast or you're toast.

It's not like TFT or Battlegrounds since you aren't fighting a real-time opponent, but it nails that 'just one more round' feeling. The minimalist style keeps the screen clean, letting you focus on synergies rather than visual clutter. It's the kind of game you can play while listening to a podcast because it's chill, but the strategy of breaking the game with OP combos keeps it from being boring.

There are catches, though. It's currently in Early Access, and you'll definitely feel it. The UI is bare-bones and sometimes the minimalism crosses the line into feeling too stripped back. You might also run into some optimization hiccups or wish there was more platform support. At $7.99, it's a paid entry in a genre that's usually free, which is a bit of a gamble given the unfinished state, but the core loop is strong enough to justify the cost for most fans of the genre. I'd give it a solid 8/10.

Verdict

Grab this if you love merging units and strategic economy loops. If you can't stand stripped-back Early Access UIs or prefer free-to-play TD games, you should probably wait for a full release.
