First Impressions: Protect the Pit Demo
Ever wanted to build a monster meat-grinder and watch the numbers explode? Protect the Pit is a weird, addictive blend of tower defense and incremental clickers. You're basically designing a death-maze to save your pit, and it's surprisingly satisfying.

Gameplay
If you're looking to scratch that 'numbers go up' itch, you've gotta try the Protect the Pit demo. Right off the bat, don't expect a traditional autobattler like TFT or Battlegrounds. You aren't drafting units here; instead, you're building a meat-grinder of a maze to stop monster hordes from hitting your pit. The core loop is surprisingly addictive. You spend your time crafting winding paths to force enemies into your traps, then dump your earnings into these massive, sprawling upgrade trees. It's that classic 'just one more upgrade' feeling that keeps you hooked.
You won't find the high-pressure pivoting of a Dota Underlords match, but you'll still find plenty of strategy in how you optimize your maze layout and which tech tree branches you prioritize. It's a defense-battler that nails a specific retro aesthetic. As one player put it, "Dangit, you've nailed an aesthetic that I can't say no to." It's the kind of game where you just want to watch a chaotic swarm of monsters get obliterated by a system you built from scratch.
Since it's a demo, there are definitely some rough edges. It's a lean, small-scale project, so don't expect Riot-level polish. Some visuals are pretty basic—the dev even mentioned using a line renderer because textures weren't hitting right. It's derivative of the incremental and TD genres, but it works for what it is. It's a quick, satisfying distraction that's totally free to try. I'm giving it a 7/10 because the vibe is great and the loop is effective, it just needs more content to really fly.

“EDIT: Devs have stated this issue should be fixed. You should try the game out if you enjoy tower defense games! [strike] Seems cool, but the start round button works when it wants to. Had to reload …”
It's a lean, free experience that's perfect for a quick break. If you're a fan of incremental games and don't mind some rough edges, jump in. Just don't expect a full-scale epic yet.
