What is Gimby?
Gimby mixes survival crafting with tower defense in a way that feels fresh but unfinished. You spend your days gathering resources and your nights desperately holding the line against a horde. It’s a high-stakes loop that rewards preparation, even if the game itself is still a work in progress.

Gameplay
You’re looking at a loop that splits your day into two very different modes. By day, you’re exploring, hunting, and fishing to gather resources. It’s a survival-crafting vibe where you prep for the inevitable. Then night falls, and the genre shifts. You have to hold the line to protect the Skull and Crown of the dead King. It’s not pure tower defense like Bloons TD where you just plop units and watch. You’re actively managing the defense while the horde attacks. Since it’s a solo-dev project from Gimby Studios, expect some rough edges. The dev admitted to using AI for initial code and placeholder sprites, though they’re scrubbing that out. It’s Early Access, so the systems might feel shallow or buggy right now. But the core tension of prep-by-day versus panic-by-night actually clicks. You’ll feel that adrenaline spike when the waves start rolling in.

Verdict
If you’re into the survival-crafting-meets-TD vibe, keep this on your radar for 2026. But if you want a polished tower defense experience right now, stick to Kingdom Rush. The $7.99 price tag is reasonable, but the Early Access state means you’re buying potential, not a finished product. Skip it if you hate bugs or shallow systems; wait if you want refinement.
