Imagine if a mining simulator had a baby with a tower defense game, and then zombies tried to eat your gate. That's Dig For Your Lives, a free indie project where you drill for loot to survive the night.
Gameplay
You're not just plopping towers on a map and watching them work like you do in Bloons. Instead, you've got this 'dig by day, fight by night' loop that's actually pretty addictive. You spend your daylight hours drilling into the earth to find resources and upgrading your gear, then you have to hold the line at your gate against relentless zombie hordes. It's a weird mashup of a mining sim and a tower defense game where the 'build' phase is all about excavation.
The progression is simple: you dig, you get money, you upgrade, and you survive. The nights get progressively harder, which keeps you coming back to see if your gear can handle the next wave. It's definitely not a cinematic experience, and it's missing the polish of something like Kingdom Rush, but the mystery hidden beneath the world gives you a reason to keep drilling.
Since it's Free to Play and in Early Access, you'll run into some serious jank. It's bare bones right now and lacks a ton of content, so don't expect a deep, complex strategy epic. However, the 4-player co-op makes the chaos way better. It's a blast to mess around with friends, provided you can handle the rough edges of an indie project that's still growing. I'm giving it a 7/10 for the novelty alone.
