Gameplay
You aren't just sitting back and watching towers do the work here. In Spud Keeper, you're right in the thick of it, picking up and smashing bugs to protect your potato patch. It's an action-hybrid that trades the slow pace of something like Bloons for a frantic loop of combat and gear upgrades. You fight off escalating waves of pests, collect rewards, and pump those back into your tools to stay alive.
That incremental, roguelite vibe is what really hooks you. You'll find yourself saying 'just one more wave' because seeing those numbers go up feels great. It's simple, but the cycle of getting stronger to face tougher bugs keeps you coming back. It's more about fast reflexes and quick upgrades than complex layout planning.
Now, you've gotta be aware that this is a Godot indie passion project. It's got some rough edges that you'll notice immediately. The UI is clunky and the animations aren't exactly AAA quality. While it's only $3.99, you're paying for a game that still feels a bit unpolished in its presentation.
If you do grab it, don't bother with the browser version. Download the actual game instead; it looks and sounds way better. It's not a masterpiece, but the core loop is addictive enough to ignore the jank for a while. I'd give it a 7/10 for where it's at right now.
