What is Built by Day, Bitten by Night?

A free, janky, but addictive voxel hybrid where you build a cozy town by day and fight UFOs by night.

Imagine a cozy voxel city builder where you spend all day decorating your perfect kingdom, only for it to be absolutely shredded by UFOs and yetis the second night hits. It's a wild mix of simulation and tower defense that turns peaceful farming into total panic.

Gameplay

You start your day in a cozy voxel world, placing farms, mansions, and fountains to build up your kingdom. It feels like a chill simulation until the sun dips, and then it pivots hard into a chaotic survival game. You aren't just placing towers on a fixed path like in Kingdom Rush; you're building the actual city you have to protect. You'll find yourself constantly torn between building another gold-generating fountain or putting up walls and cannons so a robot army doesn't flatten everything you just made.

The variety of enemies keeps you on your toes. You'll deal with zombies, pirates, yetis, and even UFOs. The loop of building, collecting, and upgrading is addictive, and the freedom to use different world sizes and units like dragons or tanks stops it from getting repetitive too quickly. It's more of a casual vibe than a hardcore strategy epic, which makes it easy to jump into for a quick session.

Since it's in Early Access, you'll notice some rough edges. The mechanics are a bit simplistic and it lacks the polished depth you'd find in something like Defense Grid. It's definitely a bit janky, but because it's free-to-play, it's hard to be too harsh. You'll spend a lot of time rebuilding after a bad night, but that's just part of the cycle. I'd give it a solid 7/10 for the sheer fun of the build-defend-repeat loop.

Key Features

What Players Say

People are loving the loop, with one player noting they 'came for the cozy city building and stayed for the absolute panic'. Others appreciate the variety of defenses and world sizes, mentioning that it's hard to stop once you start. However, it's not all praise; several players pointed out that the graphics are simple and the game 'still needs graphical improvements'. While some found it to be 'an entertaining hour or so', others spent more time rebuilding their beautiful kingdoms after zombies destroyed half of them.

“My kingdom looked beautiful for about ten minutes. Then zombies destroyed half of it. Rebuilt everything, added more towers, and suddenly it was 2 AM. Recommended , early access is ok”

If you want a casual, free experience that blends building with chaotic waves, grab this now. Hardcore strategy fans should skip it or wait for more depth, as the systems are currently a bit shallow and janky.
