First Impressions: Apawcalypse: Gang War Demo

A deckbuilding autobattler with great animal gang vibes that unfortunately demands way too much from your hardware.

Imagine a wasteland where evolved animals start gangs and fight for dominance. It's a wild mix of deckbuilding and autobattler mechanics that puts you in charge of your own animal army. If you've got a beefy GPU and a love for strategy, you need to see this.

Gameplay

You're diving into a post-apocalyptic world where evolved animals have formed their own gangs. Instead of just rolling for units in a shared pool like you do in TFT or Battlegrounds, you're managing 'Animal Gang Decks'. Your main loop is building these decks, fortifying your hideout, and then watching the chaos unfold in combat. It's a deckbuilding-heavy approach that forces you to find synergies that actually work before the fight kicks off. Once you push into the war, you take what you've learned and tweak your strategy to refine the deck further.

Since this is an Early Access demo, it's free to try, but it's definitely a diamond in the rough. You'll hit some clunky spots because it's just not a polished AAA experience yet. The biggest red flag is the optimization. It's surprisingly demanding on hardware; some sources are literally suggesting an RTX 5090 for max settings. You'll probably need to mess with your graphics settings just to keep it running smooth. If you've got a potato PC, this might be a struggle.

Despite the rough edges, the core loop is addictive. You aren't just chasing a meta; you're experimenting with how these animal fighters interact. It's less about the luck of the draw and more about how you curate your gang. If you can get past the technical hiccups, the satisfaction of building a winning deck is what keeps you coming back for another round.

First Impressions

It's a solid 7/10 for me, mainly because it tries to melt my GPU. Since it's a free demo, you should absolutely grab it if you love deckbuilders, but skip it if you're on a low-end laptop. I want to see much better optimization and more polish before the full release.
