First Impressions: Thugz VS Zombies Demo

If you've been craving a nostalgic trip back to early 2010s row-defense games, you need to grab the Thugz VS Zombies Demo. It swaps out the garden for the block and peashooters for a crew of thugs to stop the undead.

Gameplay

You're basically protecting the block from undead waves in a row-defense setup. The loop is snappy: you recruit a crew of wild THUGZ, place them on the grid, earn cash, and use that money to buy more plots of land and upgrade your squad. It's a classic earn-to-grow cycle that feels comfortable because it's heavily inspired by the Plants vs. Zombies formula. You'll spend most of your time managing your rows and prepping for the big hit, which in this demo is the first boss, Earl the Bowler.

It's not groundbreaking, though. If you've played any row-based TD game, you've already seen all the tricks here. The systems are pretty shallow, and it's definitely a 'demo' experience with some rough edges. You won't find deep tactical layers or complex builds yet. However, the addition of local co-op is a huge win. Being able to hold the line with a friend makes the simple loop way more fun than playing solo.

Since it's free to try, you don't have to worry about the value proposition. You just jump in, fight through the first stage, and see if the vibe clicks. It's fast, cartoony, and doesn't overcomplicate things, which makes it a great palette cleanser between bigger strategy games.

It's a solid 7/10 for a preview. If you love PvZ-style games and want something free to kill ten minutes with, definitely download it. If you're looking for deep strategy or something truly original, you'll probably find this too shallow, but I'm excited to see more depth in the full release.
