What is Taktari?

A refreshing African-fantasy roguelike where you win by predicting and queuing five actions before the battle starts.

Forget the multiplayer meta-chasing of the big autobattlers. Taktari is a solo indie project that swaps shared drafting for a tactical action queue and a striking African-inspired fantasy world.

Gameplay

You're not drafting from a shared pool like you do in TFT or Underlords. Taktari is a roguelike where you build a run and fight through encounters to survive. The core loop revolves around an 'action queue' system. Instead of just placing units and hoping for the best, you and the enemy both lock in five actions in advance. You've got to predict the fight and sequence your moves perfectly before hitting play to see if your plan works or if it totally blows up in your face.

It's a smart twist on the genre, focusing on tactical sequencing over traditional synergies. Visually, it's a breath of fresh air with an African-inspired fantasy vibe that avoids the usual generic tropes. However, you've got to remember this is a solo indie project in Early Access. It's not a polished AAA product, so you'll run into rough edges and some balancing quirks as you play.

At $9.99, it's a paid entry in a genre that's usually free-to-play. You're paying for a specific, curated roguelike experience rather than a live-service competitive climb. While the core loop is addictive, the unfinished state means it's a bit raw. If you can look past the lack of polish, the puzzle-solving aspect of the combat keeps you coming back for one more run.

Verdict

I'd give it a 7/10. It's perfect for puzzle-strategy fans who want a fresh vibe, but you should skip it or wait if you can't handle Early Access rough edges and a paid price tag.
