What is 水浒英雄传:八幕战役?
Ever wanted to mix historical Chinese literature with a 'hold the line' strategy game? 水浒英雄传:八幕战役 lets you command the legendary heroes of Water Margin in a gritty, isometric battle for Liangshan.

Gameplay
You aren't just plopping towers and watching them fire like in Bloons or Kingdom Rush. This is a 2D isometric RTS where you lead the heroes of the Liangshan Marsh through eight campaign acts. Your moment-to-moment loop involves managing formations, patrolling, and fighting through a fog-of-war system that makes battles feel chaotic. You'll handle ambushes and rescue missions, but the real TD itch is scratched during stronghold battles where you build camps and research tech to stop the enemy from breaking through.
It's more active than your average TD game, but it's definitely got some rough edges. The UI feels clunky and the whole thing is currently Simplified Chinese only, which is a massive wall if you don't speak the language. At $14.99, it's a bit steep for an indie title that feels like a passion project lacking final polish. You'll find some replay value in the single-player skirmishes and the level editor, but don't expect a AAA experience here.
If you've played Defense Grid and wished you could actually move your units and manage a hero roster, this is that specific vibe. Just be prepared for a fiddly experience that requires more patience than a typical 'pick up and play' strategy game.

Verdict
It's a 6.5/10. Grab it if you're a history buff or a hardcore strategy nerd who doesn't mind a language barrier, but skip it if you want a polished, easy-to-digest TD experience.
