What is NEON FORTRESS?
If you're into that cyberpunk aesthetic, you've gotta check out NEON FORTRESS. It's a neon-drenched tower defense where you command mechs and plasma turrets to light up the sky.
Gameplay
You're dropping laser mechs, plasma turrets, and missile batteries to stop a wave of tanks, gunships, and battleships from tearing through your base. It's a straightforward loop, but you aren't just sticking to one path. You've got to defend across land, air, and sea, which stops you from just autopilot-ing through the levels. It's got a great arcadey feel that keeps you moving.
Depth-wise, you've got 30 stages and 5 war modes to tackle. There are 8 base towers and 24 upgrades to play with. It's not as deep as the wild build paths you'll find in Bloons TD, but it's enough to make you actually think about your layout. When things get too chaotic, you can drop one of 5 devastating abilities to clear the screen.
At $5.99, it's a paid experience in a genre that's often free-to-play, but the polish and vibe justify the cost. However, it's a bit lean. If you're a hardcore TD veteran, you'll probably breeze through the content faster than you'd like. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it looks fantastic. The neon-drenched cyberpunk aesthetic carries the whole experience.
It's a tight, focused game, but don't expect a 100-hour epic. You'll likely burn through the 30 stages in a few evenings. It's more of a sprint than a marathon, which is fine as long as you know what you're buying. I'm landing on a 7/10 for this one.
