What is HACK & BURST?

A raw but addictive roguelite that forces you to solve falling-block puzzles to power your turrets, making it a unique but imperfect twist on the genre.

Imagine if Tetris and a tower defense game had a baby in a cyberpunk basement. You don’t just place towers and watch them shoot; you play a falling-block puzzle to actually power your defenses against incoming waves.

Gameplay

You’re playing a roguelite action-puzzle where you don’t just place towers; you power them. It’s like Tetris had a baby with a tower defense game in a cyberpunk basement. You align falling blocks to complete circuits, which triggers your turrets and unlocks sub-skills like chain lightning, black holes, and massive lasers. The loop is frantic: solve the puzzle to blow stuff up, then survive the next wave of cyber threats. It’s way more active than Defense Grid because you’re constantly sweating over the grid while enemies close in. The 'solve puzzle $ ightarrow$ blow stuff up' loop is addictive, but it’s not perfect. The UI can be clunky, and if you hate puzzles, the learning curve is steep. It’s definitely got that raw indie feel, but the core mechanic clicks hard once you get the rhythm.

Key Features

  • Align falling blocks to power turrets
  • Unlock chain lightning and black hole skills
  • Roguelite progression with cyber threats
  • Fast-paced action-puzzle hybrid gameplay

Verdict

It’s worth a few hours of your time if you’re bored of the same old Bloons clones and want something that actually challenges you. Skip it if you hate puzzle mechanics or want a polished, bug-free experience. At $4.99, it’s a fair gamble for the unique hook, even if it’s a bit rough around the edges.
