First Impressions: Defense Of Legends Demo

A free, rough-around-the-edges TD demo that adds RPG character items to a classic Kingdom Rush-style loop.

If you've got an hour to kill and love tower defense, you should check out the Defense Of Legends Demo. It mixes classic portal-defense strategy with RPG character progression to keep things from getting stale.

Gameplay

You're looking at a pretty standard TD loop here. Enemies spawn from green portals, and you've gotta stop them from reaching the red portal. It's not reinventing the wheel, and if you've spent any time with Kingdom Rush, the pacing and layout will feel instantly familiar. You aren't just slapping down static towers, though. You're managing characters, upgrading them, and buying items to boost their power. It adds a light RPG layer that stops the gameplay from feeling like a 'place and forget' clone.

That's where the spark is, but the polish just isn't there yet. Since it's a demo, you'll deal with a clunky UI and a general feeling that the game is still finding its feet. It's a skeleton of an experience. You'll likely hit a wall pretty quickly because there's just not enough content to keep you hooked for long. It's a fun distraction for an hour, but it's definitely not a full-blown experience yet.

Because it's free to play, there's zero risk in trying it. You get to see if the character-based progression clicks for you without spending a dime. Just don't expect a polished masterpiece. It's derivative and rough around the edges, but it handles the basics well enough to be worth a quick session if you're bored.

It's a 6/10 for me right now. If you love the genre and want a free way to see how character-based TD evolves, grab it. If you hate clunky UIs or need deep content to stay interested, wait for the full release.
