What is Cube Kingdoms?
If you're bored of standard tower defense and want to actually build the city you're defending, you've gotta see Cube Kingdoms. It mixes city-management with auto-battling to create a voxel-style stronghold experience that's surprisingly addictive.

Gameplay
You aren't just painting towers on a map here. Cube Kingdoms is a hybrid that splits your time between two modes. In Economy View, you're managing production chains and keeping your villagers happy so they don't just quit and leave you hanging. Once the goblins, undead, or demons show up, you flip to Defense View. It's an auto-battler, meaning your success depends entirely on how you prepped your settlement and where you positioned your defenses before the fight started.
It's a cool loop, but it's definitely rough. The game feels like it was built for mobile, so the pacing on PC is a bit off and the UI isn't always intuitive. You'll also spend the early game guessing what buildings do because there aren't many text descriptions. It's not as polished as Kingdom Rush, and the dev even admitted the performance was poor, which is why the full release happened sooner than planned.
At $7.49, it's a modest price for an indie title, but you're paying for a project that's still being tinkered with as a side project. If you can get past the slow start and the missing info, the voxel art is super clean and the combat is satisfying. It's more about the long-term build than high-intensity clicking.
